Pharmaceutics

Pharmaceutics is a subject wherein the students learn the technique of developing most pertinent dosage forms or formulations for a drug candidate. The well formulated dosage forms help in achieving the maximum therapeutic effect. In a Pharmaceutics subject, students can learn about the basics of the dosage forms such as solutions, suspensions, emulsions, tablets, capsules, creams, ointments, lotions, patches, films, suppositories, aerosols, cosmetics, NDDS, etc. These dosage forms are intended to be administered by internal and external routes. The department is equipped with the state of art laboratories, ultra-modern facilities and competitive staff.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry

The aim of Pharmaceutical chemistry is to discover and develop new therapeutic agents. Pharmaceutical Chemistry laboratories are meant to inculcate the chemical and analytical aspects of drug molecules starting from basic organic chemistry to drug design, synthesis of new drugs and analysis of drug molecules in formulation.

Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the branch of medicine that deals with the study of action of the drug and its toxic effects on biological system. Pharmacokinetics discusses the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drugs from the biological systems and pharmacodynamics discusses the biological responses of drugs. This department helps to evaluate the drugs by using animal experimentation which may help to adjust the doses of drugs in humans as well as to know the toxicities of the drug.

Pharmacognosy

Department of Pharmacognosy deals with the medicines or crude drugs derived from natural sources such as plant, animals, marine and microbes. It includes extraction, isolation, characterization and biological studies of phytoconstituents. It also deals with development and standardization of novel herbal formulations and cosmetics. The institute has developed a medicinal plant garden in the institutional campus. The medicinal plant garden has around 100 species of the medicinal plants.
